SO funny

So Jer sent me this really funny email about funny metaphors used in high school essays. These are a few I thought were particularly funny:

The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.

He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.

It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with power tools.

She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.

Note to Jami: I have mixed emotions about you teaching kids like this... :) It should be entertaining, but you might have your work cut out for you. Good luck!

Ha, thanks for sharing this with us :) I love it. It's so funny that people have no clue how their metaphor is effecting their paper. By the way, Rob, I wanted to compliment you on your similes and metaphors in your book. Very nice. (And no, nothing like these examples you have here!) They are definitely not cliche, and they leave me looking up and saying, "Hmm, I've never thought of that one before." And I read a LOT, as you know, so that is quite the compliment. :)
