It's Raining Grebes!

Cedar City experienced a freak rainfall of Western Grebes the other day.  For non animal people this post might be a surprise, because Mom and Dad hadn't even noticed.  It started in the morning when Jennifer and I found a grebe at our friend Shanna's house.  We called Martin Tyner's bird rehabilitation and apparently he had been picking grebes up all morning long.
And now a breif note about the western grebe:
The grebe is a water foul, but so much so that it is not built to walk on land.  They live their entire lives in the air and water.  They can't fly unless they have a take off from the water first.  When a storm hit, thousands of migrating grebe landed in Cedar City, apparently mistaking shining black roads for shining water.  Thousands died on impact but thousands more survived and we helped pick as many up as we could during the day.  Between us we rescued 28 birds, but with other help they were able to release (this is Heresay, but sounds accurate to me, around six thousand)
I had to post a picture though, because I thought they were the most magnificent looking birds.
